I Asked Myself Today — Am I On My Own List?

Honestly? I almost didn't write this.
Because writing this means admitting something I've been quietly avoiding for a while now.
I am not taking care of myself. Not really.
And the strange part is — I know how to. I know what I should be eating. I know I should be moving my body. I know rest matters and water matters and all of it matters. I know.
But knowing and doing? That's where my day runs out.

Here's what my "self-care" looks like right now — real talk:
My idea of a treat is finishing my chai while it's still hot.
I tied my hair up this morning and forgot about it for the entire day. Caught myself in the mirror at night and thought — oh, I exist.
I cooked three meals today. Not one of them was something I was craving. Everyone else's favourite made it to the stove. Mine didn't.
The weight I keep saying I'll work on? Still there. Growing, actually. And somewhere between the groceries and the calls and the endless list of things-to-do, my workout remains a very optimistic item on tomorrow's plan.
My body has started talking to me — a little ache here, a stiffness there, a tiredness that sleep doesn't fully fix. I keep saying it's just age. But is it? Or is it just… neglect?

And here is the part that hit me hardest —
I would never let someone I love feel this unseen.
I notice when someone around me is tired. I ask if they've eaten. I check in. I show up.
But for myself? I just… keep going. Head down. Day after day.
Like I'm the one person in my life who doesn't need checking on.

But I'm trying. Slowly. Imperfectly. But trying.
Some days I remember to eat something warm and sit down while I eat it — not standing at the kitchen counter shoveling food between tasks.
Some days I stretch in the morning for just five minutes before the day swallows me whole.
Some days I cook something I love. Just for me. And I eat it without guilt.
Some days I take my hair down in the evening, look at myself in the mirror and say — you did okay today.
It's not a wellness routine. It's not Instagram-worthy. But it's mine. And I'm learning that small and consistent beats perfect and never.

Because here's what I truly believe —
A woman who is running on empty cannot pour from that place for long.
We are not built to disappear into our roles. We are not meant to exist only in service of others. We are whole people — with bodies that need rest, hearts that need joy, and souls that need nourishment beyond just getting through the day.
Taking care of yourself is not a luxury. It is not selfish. It is not something you earn after everything else is done.
It is something you deserve. Right now. As you are.

So I want to ask you — woman to woman, honestly:
When did you last do something just for your body?
When did you last eat what you were craving?
When did you last look at yourself — really look — and ask, how are you doing?
