The Unsung Heroine – Durga Bhabhi

When we talk about India’s freedom struggle, we often hear names like Bhagat Singh and Chandrashekhar Azad…

But there is one name that history rarely highlights—
Durga Devi Vohra, fondly known as Durga Bhabhi.

She was not just the wife of a revolutionary…
she was a fearless fighter herself.

In 1928, when Bhagat Singh needed to escape from the British after the Saunders case,
Durga Bhabhi did something incredibly brave.

She disguised herself as a British woman…
and helped Bhagat Singh escape by posing as his wife on a train.

Imagine the courage it took.
If she had been caught, she could have faced severe punishment—even death.

But fear never stopped her.

She didn’t just support the revolution—
she actively participated in it.

Durga Bhabhi even took up arms and stood against British officers,
fighting for the country’s freedom.

After India gained independence,
she chose to live a simple and quiet life—
without seeking fame or recognition.

Even today,
many people are unaware that a woman played such a crucial role
in saving one of India’s greatest revolutionaries.

Lesson:
Not all heroes are remembered in history books…
but their courage shapes the nation forever.
